Although January 1st has come and gone, California continues to provide further guidance on how to implement the provisions of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). The updated regulations, released on February 7th, will be welcomed guidance for many organizations still working to implement mechanisms to comply with the regulation, expected to become enforceable on July 1, 2020. The latest round of edits have been helpfully redlined by the California AG, and include additional definitions, and further guidance on areas that are still far from clear, including when organizations are not required to search for information requested under a “right to know” request (see page 16). The latest redlined regulations can be found here. The deadline to comment on these updates has been extended to February 25, 2020.
